Neuburg an der Donau (Freistaat Bayern, Germany)
Neuburg an der Donau (Neuburg on the Danube; coordinates: 48° 44′ 0″ N, 11° 11′ 0″ E), the former capital of the duchy of Pfalz-Neuburg, in which Anabaptist teachings were spread very early. Otto Heinrich, Count Palatine, on 28 January 1528 issued an order against the "new Christians." According to the chronicles of the Hutterian Brethren three Anabaptists were executed for their faith in Neuburg in the 16th century, among them the successful preacher Andreas of Neiss. Southwest of Neuburg the Maxweiler Mennonite settlement was started in 1802; its inhabitants emigrated to America about the middle of the 19th century. BibliographyHege, Christian and Christian Neff.
