Prairie Chapel (Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada)

Prairie Chapel in Abbotsford, British Columbia began services in 1951, and formally organized in 1970. The first building was occupied in 1955, with a subsequent building program in 1970. Albert and Mary Nickel are considered the founding leaders of the group. The congregation originated through outreach by individuals from West Abbotsford Mennonite Church.

The Sunday school mission was initiated by individuals, with West Abbotsford Mennonite assuming responsibility in 1954. The congregation's name changed from Sumas Sunday School Mission to Prairie Chapel in 1959. It incorporated as a Society in 1961 and became independent of West Abbotsford in 1970. It never affiliated with a conference.

Pastor Martin Gouldthorpe served in the 1980s as a salaried full time congregational leader. In 1985 there were 140 members. The language of worship is English.
