Temple Mennonite Churches (Russia)Temple (German, Tempel) Mennonite Churches were located in Olgino and Tempelhof in the province of Stavropol at the foothills of the Caucasian Mountains, and at Alexanderfeld (Alexandrodar), Velikoknyazhevsk, Kuban district, the latter with Isaak Fast as elder from 1884. Dirks reports a total membership of 148 of whom 49 were active (1905). Johann Lange, Johann Schmidt, Dietrich Dick, and N. Gengenbach served the Olgino-Tempelhof congregation. The Templers of this area associated closely with those of Palestine. In 1881 Christoph Paulus, his son Franz Paulus, and Friedrich Lange from Palestine visited the Temple congregation in Russia. At this time some guiding principles were agreed upon. Some of the Mennonite Templers joined the settlements in Palestine (see also Temple Church). BibliographyFriesen, Peter M.
