Yarrow United Mennonite Church (Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada)The Yarrow United Mennonite congregation in Yarrow (now a part of Chilliwack), British Columbia began services in 1928 with a group of 21 individuals. In the early years Yarrow United Mennonite was a branch of the First Mennonite Church Greendale congregation. The congregation formally organized on 25 October 1938. The first building was occupied in 1938, with a subsequent building program in 1959. J. J. Klassen is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through colonization from Manitoba. Because of church growth in the 1940s and early 1950s a building program took place and a new church was dedicated in 1959. Lack of work opportunities in later years resulted in a reduction of members from a high of 210 members in the 1950s to 102 in 1977. BibliographyCanadian Mennonite (24 November 1961): 12.
