Ehrenpreis, Peter (16th century)Peter Ehrenpreis of Illingen, Württemberg, son of the former Schultheiss Wolf Ehrenpreis, was won for Anabaptism ca. 1583, went to Moravia when he was baptized, returned, relapsed for a time, then returned to his faith, and finally moved with his family to Moravia in 1596. His unusually fine life and spirit made a powerful impression upon the community. The Illingen pastor Huttenloch reported in 1596 to the Abbot of Maulbronn that "he is held in higher favor by a large part of the community than all the evangelical preachers." "Like all Anabaptists he leads a quiet, honorable, and blameless life." A certain George Augsburger is reported to have said, "If any man is saved, he will be. And I could wish no better heaven than the one Peter will be in." BibliographyBossert, Gustav. Quellen zur Geschichte der Täufer, I. Band: Herzogtum Württemberg.
