Franzfeld (Varvarovka) was a village of the Yazekovo Mennonite settlement near Chortitza, Russia, established in 1869. In 1918 the village had a hundred farms and 5,500 acres of land. After the collectivization the village had 3,436 acres of land. In 1914 the population was 466 and in 1941, 630. Eleven persons were murdered in 1919 and 85 were exiled in 1929-1941. During the German invasion 36 persons were evacuated eastward. When the Germans retreated the village population was taken along. Some were later repatriated by the Red army and others found their way to America.
