Tilmann Irle, b. 14 May 1848 at Anstoss near Freudenberg, Germany, d. 25 November 1922, at Velbert (Rhineland), was a German missionary in the service of the Dutch Mennonite Missionary Association 1880-1887 at the station of Pakanten in Sumatra, Indonesia. He found a church with about 100 members, which he increased with 17 baptisms. In his further work under the Rhenish Missionary Association of Barmen he became very well acquainted with the difficulties involved in mission work among Muslims; nevertheless he remained at his post as long as he was able (1921).
