Licht und Hoffnung is a 32-page 8 x 10½ in. (20 x 26.7 cm.) monthly journal established by J. A. Sprunger in 1893 and edited and published by him until his death in 1911, then by his widow until her death in 1934. Vol. IV, No. 2, indicates that it was printed by the Mennonite Publishing Company at Elkhart, Indiana, but the place of publication was Chicago, Illinois.  Sprunger at that time operated a rescue mission at the southwest corner of Harrison Street and May Street. The content of this number indicates that the journal represented a type of piety tinged with what later became known as "holiness" or "pentecostal," and also promoted a deaconess hospital in Cleveland and the support of Armenian orphans. It professed to be nondenominational.
