Remke, Govert (17th century)Govert Remke, a Mennonite of Krefeld, who in cooperation with Wilm van der Leyen procured the release from prison for his brethren of Rheydt. On 11 April 1683, he purchased a tract of 1,000 acres in Pennsylvania, signing a contract with William Penn. He never took possession of the land, however, for he did not immigrate to America.
