Spinniker, Melis Ates (d. 1681)

Melis Ates Spinniker, died December 1681, was a preacher of the Waterlander Mennonite congregation at Groningen, Netherlands until 1679. Because of some trouble with the church board here and by the intervention of Galenus Abrahamsz, the Schiedam congregation called him as its preacher. Spinniker served at Schiedam from 1669 until his early death in 1681. His widow Grietje Hillebrands with two or three daughters and two sons, one of whom was Adriaan Spinniker, moved to Amsterdam in 1694. Spinniker had not received special training for the ministry and was a book printer by trade.
