Spis, Jacob Pietersz (1725-1810)Jacob Pietersz Spis, born in 1725, died 13 December 1810, at Hoorn, was the last untrained minister of the Mennonite congregation at Hoorn, Dutch province of North Holland. He served 1775-1795 and 1802-1810. In the period of the French Revolution, Spis was not a Patriot as were nearly all the Dutch Mennonites, but a loyal adherent of the Orange party. For this reason he was suspended from his ministry from 1795 to 1802. Spis was also the last conservative leader in Hoorn. BibliographyDoopsgezind Jaarboekje (1941): 49-54.
