Winter, Vitus Anton (1754-1814)Vitus Anton Winter, pastor of the St. Jacobs Church and professor in the Ludwigs Maximilian University at Landshut, Bavaria, Germany, author of Geschichte der bairischen Wiedertäufer im 16. Jahrhundert (Munich, 1809). This book attempts a treatment of Bavarian Anabaptist history on the basis of the sources, but actually offers little. Of value is only some information on Anabaptist leaders like Augustin Würzelburger and Georg Wagner and on the terrible persecution and suppression of the Anabaptist movement by the Bavarian dukes. The documents given at the end of the book are also valuable. BibliographyHege, Christian and Christian Neff. Mennonitisches Lexikon, 4 vols.
