This congregation began in 1982 with the assistance of [[Mennonite Central Committee (International)|Mennonite Central Committee]] and Manitoba Mennonite Brethren Missions and Church Extension with Bible studies for the Vietnamese. Soon worship services were begun in the [[Home Street Mennonite Church (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)|Home Street Mennonite Church]] under the sponsorship of the [[Mennonite Church Manitoba|Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba]] and the [[Manitoba Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches|Manitoba Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches]] in 1983. The chartering service of the Winnipeg Vietnamese and Chinese Church (Mennonite affiliated) was held on 4 December 1983. In August 1986 the congregation split into a Vietnamese congregation affiliated with the Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba with about 40 members, and the Chinese congregation affiliated with the Manitoba Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches.
