Allert was a family name found originally among the Mennonites in the Frisian congregations of Orlofferfelde and Thiensdorf in West Prussia. It was derived from the first name Allert. An Allert Janz was martyred in 1570. In West Prussia eleven families of this name were counted in 1776 (without Danzig). In 1779 Dirk Allert was chosen as Lehrer in the Thiensdorf congregation and in 1799 became the Ältester of the Markushof congregation. The only Allert family known to have immigrated to Russia did so in 1846.
