View source for Anneken Jans (d. 1571)

Anneken Jans, an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr of [[Woerden (Zuid-Holland, Netherlands)|Woerden]] in the Dutch province of [[South Holland (Netherlands) |South Holland]], was living in [[Middelburg (Zeeland, Netherlands)|Middelburg]], in the Dutch province of [[Zeeland (Netherlands)|Zeeland]], where she was burned at the stake on 3 December 1571, because she had been rebaptized, and notwithstanding the teaching of learned theologians "remained stubborn and obstinate in her error, false opinions, and heresy."
