Arkenbout is a former Mennonite family. Martinus Arkenbout was a preacher of the [[Flemish Mennonites|Flemish]] congregation at [[Brielle (Zuid-Holland, Netherlands)|Brielle]] ca. 1689. Arkenbout is a former Mennonite family. Martinus Arkenbout was a preacher of the Flemish congregation at Brielle ca. 1689. His son Jan Arkenbout served as preacher at Schiedam 1716-1722 and Haarlem (Klein Heiligland congregation) 1722-ca. 1740, and his grandson Martinus Arkenbout, educated at the Amsterdam Lamist seminary, served at Zwolle 1741-1746, Leiden 1746-1757, and Haarlem 1757-d. 1790. In 1782 he dedicated the Mennonite home for the poor on Groot Heiligland, and his sermon De Zang- en Speel-konst in haar nuttig gebruik . . . , preached on 26 July 1771, when the Klein Heiligland Mennonite church acquired its organ, was published at Haarlem in 1771.
