Beek, van (Beeck) family

Van Beek (Beeck) is a widely ramified Dutch Mennonite family, found from the early 17th century at Amsterdam and Haarlem, and also at Utrecht. Most of them were well-to-do merchants. In Amsterdam some belonged to the Lamist church, and some to the Zonists. Dirk van Beek, d. 21 October 1762, of Amsterdam, was a Mennonite minister at Schiedam 1722-1726 and Rotterdam 1726-1753, in which year he retired. As secretary of the Rotterdam church board he was active in supporting the Mennonites who emigrated from the Palatinate, Germany, to America via Rotterdam.
