Beets, Cornelis (17th/18th century)

Cornelis Beets was a deacon of the Zonist Mennonite congregation at Amsterdam. He was a representative of this congregation on the Commissie voor Buitenlandsche Nooden, and was one of the delegates sent to The Hague on 15 March 1710 to plead the cause of the Mennonites of Switzerland before the States-General of Holland. The result of the intervention was, that the States on that very day wrote a letter to the council of Bern. On 7 April 1710 Cornelis Beets was again in The Hague and paid a visit to the Swiss ambassador, Saint-Saphorin, and also to the English ambassador, Lord Townshend. Further particulars of the life of Cornelis Beets, including the dates of his birth and death, are unknown.
