Blenckvliet, van, family

Van Blenckvliet is a former Mennonite family in the Netherlands, originally from Flanders. The members of this family were found in Haarlem, Rotterdam, and Dordrecht. In Haarlem Elisabeth van Blenckvliet and her husband Jaques van Damme in 1640 founded the old people's home called the Zuiderhofje, and in 1643 Elisabeth, then a widow, liberally endowed the orphanage of the Flemish congregation of Den Blok, founded 1634, and gave it an order. Jacob Arents van Blenckvliet was a preacher of the Old Flemish congregation of Rotterdam about 1635, while Adriaen Leendertsz van Blenckvliet was at the same time a deacon of this church. Fictoor Jans van Blenckvliet was a representative of the church of Dordrecht at the Flemish conference held at Haarlem in 1649.
