Heinrich Brubacher was born in Einsiedel (Lemberg) in Galicia then Austria, now Ukraine, in 1806. The village was founded by Mennonites of the Palatinate who had been invited to settle in Galicia by Joseph II in 1784. At that time Heinrich's grandfather, Tobias Brubacher, born in Albersheim in the Nassau-Weilburg district, took over farm number two in the village. In 1795 his son Philipp married Susanna Rubin; Heinrich was the third child and only son of this union. He attended the village school and then took over his father's farm. His marriage to Elisabeth Klein in 1826 was blessed with four daughters. Upon the death of his wife in 1843, he married Elisabeth Schmalenberg. In 1837 Heinrich Brubacher was ordained to the ministry and in 1845 to the eldership in Einsiedel. In 1858 he gave farm number two to his youngest son-in-law and took over farm number four. In 1871 he emigrated to the daughter colony at Dobrovlany near Strij, which his son-in-law Peter Müller had established the year before. Heinrich settled on the farm called Stary Dvor. He continued to serve as elder in the new settlement and died in 1893 at the age of 87.
