The Old Order Amish settlement in California Township, Branch County, Michigan, USA began in 1960. It is a "Swiss Amish" community that originates from the Berne Old Order Amish Settlement located in Adams County in east central Indiana. "Swiss Amish" refers to the unique dialect used by this group that descended from 1850s Amish immigrants who came from Switzerland and Alsace in the 19th century.
They are among the more conservative Amish using only open buggies, and holding to a plainer lifestyle.
In 2015 the California Township Amish settlement had seven districts (congregations) with 138 families.
