The Arabic Evangelical Church (Surrey) began in 1991 and formally organized in 1993 under the leadership of Sammir Youssef. It joined the British Columbia (BC) Conference of Mennonite Brethren (MB) Churches the same year. The language of worship is Arabic. The congregation began meeting in New Westminster but later moved to Surrey. Reda Hanna began serving the congregation as pastor in 1998. The congregation was originally funded by the BC MB conference Board of Church Extension, but went off that board's subsidy in 1999. In 1998 the church met Friday afternoons in New Westminster, and also held a Bible study and youth meeting on Saturday evenings in Surrey, BC and a Bible study on Friday evenings in Abbotsford, BC. By 2005 the congregation was meeting Sunday evenings, while the Abbotsford group had organized as a separate congregation, Arabic Evangelical Church (Abbotsford), and joined the BC MB conference in 2000.
The Charleswood Mennonite Church congregation began in May 1963 under the sponsorship of Bethel Mennonite congregation. There were 31 charter members at the time of the formal organization on 15 September 1963. Initially the group met in the Chapman School in the Charleswood area of Winnipeg; it then bought land on the corner of Haney and Eldridge.

The congregation has been involved in sponsoring Crossroads, an inner-city project, Sargent MCC thrift shop, and Bethel Place. A Korean ministry began in 1996 with the arrival of several families from Korea. In the fall of 1997, the Korean students studying at Canadian Mennonite Bible College decided to worship together at the Charleswood Church. They studied the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective, and in October 1997, Hun Lee, who had been a Presbyterian minister in Korea, was baptized and several others were received into membership. It became apparent in 1998 that there wasa need for Korean language services. In September 1999 Hun Lee was licensed for ministry; he was ordained as a Mennonite minister on 3 December 2000.
