Hawthornden State Hospital, a modern mental hospital located about half way between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio, was the place of service of Civilian Public Service Unit No. 72, approved by Selective Service in November 1942 and closed 1 October 1946. The unit, under the direction of the Mennonite Central Committee, performed a variety of tasks, but about half of the men were attendants on the wards.
