Cool family

Cool was a Mennonite family in the Netherlands, a branch of which was found in the Dutch province of Groningen. The first known ancestor of this branch was Geert Jans Cool (ca. 1725-1796) who died in Appingedam. The Cool family was connected by marriage with other Mennonite families such as Blaupot. Some members of the Cool family in the 19th century served their country in high military ranks.

Besides a number of deacons two members of this family were Mennonite pastors: Pieter Cool and his son Gerrit Cool (1840-1902), who served the congregation of Wormerveer op het Noord from 1866 until he retired in 1899.

A Cool family, which may not be related to the Groningen branch, is found in Amsterdam; members of a Cool family belonged to the congregation bij't Lam as early as 1646.
