Craandijk was a Dutch Mennonite family of German origin. Dirck Jansz Craandijk, born about 1634, came from Vreden in Westphalia to Amsterdam, where he was baptized in the Mennonite Church bij't Lam on 2 July 1664. He was a linen weaver and died before October 1690. His sons were also weavers. Later on the family grew rather wealthy; in the 18th century many members of the Craandijk family were owners of a feed mill at Amsterdam; and later some of them also at Amsterdam, were brokers, especially ship brokers, wood dealers, and shipowners.
Jacobus Craandijk (1834-1912) was a Mennonite pastor. Herman Craandijk, born 12 January 1897, at Leeuwarden, a well-known lawyer at Amsterdam and after 1951 president of the General Conference of the Dutch Mennonites (Algemene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit), was a descendant of this family.
