The Deerfield Hutterite Colony was founded in 1971 as a division from the Plainview Hutterite Colony. 

Newport Hutterite Colony in Claremont, South Dakota and Grant Hutterite Colony in Enderlin, North Dakota, are daughter colonies.

In 2017 the Deerfield Hutterite Colony was a Schmiedeleut Group 2 colony.
