Dick, Heinrich I. (1864-1928)
Heinrich I. Dick (1864-1928), the son of Isaak and Margareta Dick, was born on 29 September 1864 in Conteniusfeld, South Russia. In 1875 he came with his parents to North America and settled on a farm northwest of Mountain Lake, Minnesota. In his 19th year he was converted and was baptized by Elder Aron Wall. He was one of the founders of the Brudertaler Church at Mountain Lake in 1889. He was a Sunday school teacher for 21 years and served in all the other offices in the church. In 1896 he was elected as deacon, on 20 July 1902, ordained as minister, and on 18 July 1906, as elder of the church. In 1918 he was compelled by poor health to resign his position as leader of the congregation, but continued to preach wherever he could.
In 1885 Dick was married to Mrs. Sarah Flaming. To this union were born six children, four of whom died in childhood. Their son Henry was a minister (ordained 1920) and was later field secretary of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren. Their son John was a missionary in China for 14 years and died on an Indian mission field in Oklahoma.
