Emmatal Fortbildungsschule (Marion County, Kansas, USA)

Emmatal Fortbildungsschule was established as a Kansas ConferenceMennonite (General Conference Mennonite) secondary school in 1882 and occupied an empty school of the Emmatal school district, Marion County. H. H. Ewert was the teacher. After the first year the school was transferred to Halstead where it was known as the Halstead Seminary, and in 1893 to Newton to continue as Bethel College. The Emmatal Fortbildungsschule, also called a “Zentralschule,” was the first attempt of the Mennonites of the prairie states and provinces to introduce secondary education.
