Hermann Faukelius, born about 1560 at [[Bruges (West-Vlaanderen, Belgium)|Bruges]], [[Belgium|Belgium]], studied theology at the universities of [[Ghent (Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium)|Ghent]] and [[Leiden (Zuid-Holland, Netherlands)|Leiden]]. In addition he was a member of the committee on the affairs of the church in the East Indies. He was one of the translators of the well-known "state translation" of the Bible. He died 9 May 1625, at Middelburg. He incurred the disfavor of the Mennonites with the publication of his book, <em>Babel dat is verwerringhe der wederdooperen onder malkanderen, over meest alle stukken der christelycke leere.
