Frans Frederycxzoon in de Trompe, a native of Arnhem, Dutch province of Gelderland, living in Amsterdam, by order of Hendrik Goedbeleid slyly obtained possession of the key of the Amsterdam town hall and so partook in the Anabaptist assault at Amsterdam 10-11 May 1535. Being arrested after the attack had miscarried, he was tried several times and after torture sentenced to death on 1 June and beheaded.

His revelations are very valuable in reconstructing the views and intentions of the revolutionary Anabaptists. That Frans had been rebaptized himself is not evident from the records.
