The Friesland Mennonite Brethren Church, located in Colony Friesland, near Puerto Rosario, is a member of the [[Südamerikanische Konferenz der Mennonitischen Brüdergemeinden (South American Conference of Mennonite Brethren Congregations)|South American District Conference of the Mennonite Brethren Church]] and after 1948 was also a member of the General Conference of the Mennonite Brethren Church of North America. It was founded on 3 October 1937 under the leadership of Kornelius Voth, assisted by Heinrich Braun, by members that had left the older Chaco settlements to establish a new colony in east Paraguay. Its members are largely farmers. The original membership was 153, increased by 1953 to 234. The church at that time was served by six ministers and three deacons. Services were held regularly every Sunday in the village schools; however, construction had been begun on a new brick church in the village of Rückenau, with a seating capacity of 400. The first Sunday of each month was set aside for a special meeting of church members only. Saturday evening meetings as well as ladies' aid work and other phases of church life were carried on conjointly with the Mennonite Church. The congregation, however, has its own youth and choir work program. Feetwashing was practiced. The leader was still the founder, Kornelius Voth, Grossweide, Friesland until his death ca. 1957. After 1947 he was also the leader of the Friesland Mennonite Brethren Church in Colony Volendam. In 1958 it had 194 members, with Johann Goertzen as leader.
