Gardom Lake Bible Camp Source: D. Giesbrecht

Gardom Lake Bible Camp is a 72 acre facility located south of Salmon Arm, in the beautiful Okanagan lake country of British Columbia. It has the capacity to serve 150 children for each camping cycle, and is also used by local schools. By 1997 the camp was attracting some 600 children for its June to August sessions.  For the 2010 summer season, the camp was served by five year round staff, 64 summer staff and 54 junior summer staff, relating to 1,100 campers from ages six to sixteen. A further 126 campers were part of an Encounter experience in which they slept in tents and cooked their own meals.

The camp is one of five such ministries owned by the British Columbia (BC) Conference of Mennonite Brethren (MB) Churches. The operation however is managed by a local board of directors. The mission of this camp is to provide each camper with a sense of fulfillment that will encourage future growth in all aspects of life.

This idyllic lake-side property was originally homesteaded by the Gosnell family. In 1974 the BC MB Conference purchased the property from O. C. Dobell, the then owner.  In 1991 a new working agreement was signed with the Conference.

Between 1976 and 1983 the British Columbia Government approved three camp development grants, totaling $45,000.00.

Bruce and Virginia Reimer were appointed as the first full-time directors in 1988. Subsequent directors have included Wilf and Pearl Pauls, Will and Doris Born, and Rikk and Kendra Kieft.

Over the years Gardom Lake Bible Camp has added numerous recreational facilities which include water sports, a basketball court, toddlers playground and enlarged playing fields.  A modern lodge which offers a very functional central meeting place, was completed in 1981.
