Gellius Snecanus, the "Reformer" of [[Friesland (Netherlands)|Friesland]], was a priest at Niekerk, and after 1565 Reformed preacher at [[Leeuwarden (Friesland, Netherlands)|Leeuwarden]], d. about 1600. He was a violent opponent of the [[Anabaptism|Anabaptists]] and published against them the Latin polemic <em>Methodica descriptio </em>(Leiden, 1584), which was translated into Dutch in 1588 with the title, <em>Ordentlijcke beschryvinge ende fondament van dry gemeyne plaetsen der H. Schrift. </em>The synod of Bolsward meeting in 1588 commissioned him to investigate [[Menno Simons (1496-1561)|Menno Simons']] <em>Fundamentboek </em>(see [[Foundation and Plain Instruction of the Saving Doctrine of Our Lord Jesus Christ|Foundation Book]]).
