Gerrit Dirksz (Gerrit Wevers or Gerrit the Weaver), an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, was sentenced to death at [[Amsterdam (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)|Amsterdam]] on 16 January 1553. He was a native of "Raesdorp," probably a town in Münsterland, [[Germany|Germany]], rather than Ransdorp near Amsterdam. He had been (re)baptized and confessed that he had heard [[Gillis van Aken (ca. 1500-1557)|Gillis van Aken]] preach twice. Because he recanted he was not burned at the stake, but beheaded.
