In 1930-1943 he was director of the medical mission in this field. In August 1943 he was arrested by the Japanese invaders and interned in a concentration camp. After his release in August 1945 he was for a short time again active in organizing the medical care on the mission field and restoring what had been destroyed or burned down by fanatical Muslims.
