Hans (Jan) Symonsz, (erroneously also called Simon Janssen), an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, was burned at the stake at [[Antwerp (Belgium)|Antwerp]], [[Belgium|Belgium]] on 13 September 1567. He was a wholesale dealer and a preacher of the Antwerp congregation. In 1566 he had been in [[Friesland (Netherlands)|Friesland]] to settle the Flemish-Frisian quarrels (see [[Flemish Mennonites|Flemish Mennonites]]). The <em>[[Martyrs' Mirror]]</em> contains two letters written by Hans in prison.
