Heartland Community Church, a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Conference (EMC), began because there was a positive desire to offer another local option and to assist some people who were leaving Prairie Rose Evangelical Mennonite Church, also located in the Landmark area. Some differences of opinion existed on the matter of congregational/ministerial decision-making.

The emerging congregation began meeting in Summer 2008 in the west wing of Prairie Rose Evangelical Mennonite Church’s building. It adopted the name Heartland Community Church when it began to meet in the former Landmark Motors building on Main Street in Landmark, Manitoba, on March 2009, first renting and then purchasing it.

Heartland Community Church was received into the membership of the EMC in July 2010. In January 2012 David Thiessen began serving as its part-time pastor. His installation service was on 4 March 2012.

In 2012, Heartland Community Church averaged 100 at Sunday School and 175 at a worship service.
