<p><b>New page</b></p><div>Hendrik van Etten, born at [[Breda (Noord-Brabant, Netherlands)|Breda]], Dutch province of [[North Brabant (Netherlands)|North Brabant]], [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr, was seized with his friend [[Abraham Picolet (d. 1569)|Abraham Picolet]] by soldiers of [[Alba, Fernando Álvarez de Toledo y Pimentel, 3rd Duke of (1507-1582)|Duke Alba]], and although they had not yet been baptized, they were burned at the stake at [[Antwerp (Belgium)|Antwerp]] in 1569 together with [[Maeyken Janssens van der Goes (d. 1569)|Maeyken van der Goes]] after a frank confession of their faith. In prison van Etten wrote several letters which have been lost, in which as an ex-soldier he exhorted his friends to persevere in the battle assigned to them.<br />
