Hilltop Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in Fort Vermilion, Alberta began services in 1958, and formally organized in 1968. The first building was occupied in 1961, with subsequent building programs in 1968 and 1988. John W. Friesen is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through colonization of northern Alberta.

The congregation grew out of the work surrounding a children's home in Fort Vermillion. The congregation operates the Hilltop Christian School.
