The Hutterthal Mennonite Church, Freeman, South Dakota, USA, had its roots in the immigration into the then Dakota Territory between 1874 and 1879. Hutterthal Mennonite did not join the Northern District of the General Conference Mennonite Church until 1942. As part of the realignment of the Mennonite Church (MC) and General Conference Mennonite Church into Mennonite Church USA, Hutterthal Mennonite was among the congregations that joined the new Central Plains Mennonite Conference in 2000.

In 2023 the congregation remained part of the Central Plains Conference of Mennonite Church USA.
