Iglesia Evangelica Hispana in Winnipeg, Manitoba began through outreach by the Northwest Mennonite Conference in 1983. It was the first Hispanic church in Winnipeg, with approximately 50 members. Rafael Barahona served as pastor from 1983 to 1988. He and his family dedicated much of their time to ministry with newcomers and immigrants. They provided them with translation assistance, becoming familiar with the city, doctor appointments, shopping, etc. Worship Services and meetings were conducted primarily in Spanish to reach out to a growing Hispanic community.
