Isaac is a Mennonite name of Prussian background appearing early in the church records of Tiegenhagen, Ladekopp, Rosenort, Heubuden, Elbing, and other congregations. From Prussia this name was transplanted to the Mennonite settlements of the Ukraine. Franz Isaac was the author of Die Molotschnaer Mennoniten (Halbstadt, 1908). From the Ukraine the name was spread over Russia and also transplanted to the United States in the 1870s and to Canada and South America after World War I.
