Jan Neulen, a citizen of Visschersweert, south of Roermond in the Dutch province of Limburg. The village belonged at that time to the Montfort district of the duchy of Gelre. A circle of Anabaptists lived here, to whom Menno Simons preached in 1544 or 1545. On the morning following the preaching Jan Neulen took Menno by boat down the Maas to Roermond. About the same time Theunis van Hastenrath, visiting the Mennonites in this region, preached in Jan Neulen's home. Neulen was seized and tried at Montfort on 10 November 1550. His house was confiscated, but he apparently escaped with his life.
