The Jay County (Indiana) Old Order Amish Mennonite settlement, near Portland, was established in the spring of 1937 when seven Amish families, including Bishop Isaac E. Gingerich, moved there from Buchanan County, Iowa. Preacher Enos Bontrager and Jacob Mast with their families moved to [[Tennessee (USA)|Tennessee]] in 1946, and Preacher Jacob Miller and family moved to [[Missouri (USA)|Missouri]] in 1947.
