Jehan was born at [[Komen (Hainaut, Belgium)|Komen]] (Commines) in Flanders and had married at [[Wervik (West-Vlaanderen, Belgium)|Wervik]]. By trade he was a <em>mutsenscheerdere</em>, but when he was unemployed he worked on farms. He was 24 years of age; in 1557 he had been (re) baptized. He was put to death with Pauwels Vermaete, Martin van de Walk, and Hansken van den Broecke.
