Jenneken Jan Diericx (Jenneken van Diericx), an Anabaptist martyr, drowned 31 January 1573 at the Steen castle of Antwerp, Belgium. P. Génard, who studied the documents at Antwerp, found the following note, the meaning of which is not quite clear: "was condemned to the stake, but since she was not willing to go to the fire, she has been executed with water" (i.e., has been drowned).
