John F. Funk & Brother
John F. Funk & Brother, "Booksellers, Publishers and Bookbinders," 157 Main St., Elkhart, Indiana, the name of the Funk publishing. agency 1869-1874. It had previously (1864-1869) been known as John F. Funk, and was afterward (1875-1925) called the Mennonite Publishing Co., Inc. The brother was Abram K. Funk. It was this firm which published the German <em>Martyrs' Mirror</em> in 1870, the English Complete Works of Menno Simons in 1871, Dirk Philips' <em>Enchiridion</em> in German in 1872 , began the Mennonite <em>Family Almanac</em> and <em>Familien-Kalender</em> in 1870, and published many Mennonite hymnbooks, prayer books, and catechisms. A total of 27 titles published by the firm are listed in Bender's Two centuries of American Mennonite literature, 34-40. Funk's publications had wide circulation among the Mennonites in Canada.
