Jong, Arnoldus de (1802-1854)

Arnoldus de Jong, a Dutch Mennonite pastor, b. 14 April 1802 at Leeuwarden, d. 22 May 1854 at Dantumawoude, studied at the Amsterdam Mennonite Seminary and served the congregation of Surhuisterveen 1826-1827 and Dantumawoude 1827-1854. He is the author of some poetical works. He was married to Anna Fontein of Harlingen. His son Dirk Fontein de Jong was a promoter of the Frisian dairy industry, having also a keen interest in church matters; in 1896 he was president of the Friese Sociëteit (Mennonite Conference in Friesland). A grandson of Arnoldus de Jong, also called Arnoldus de Jong (1873-November 1946), was a Mennonite minister of the following congregations: Noordhorn 1898-1910, Hindeloopen 1910-1914, and Broek op Langendijk 1914-1938.
