Joost (Josse) Joosten was an [[Anabaptism|Anabaptist]] martyr executed at [[Veere (Zeeland, Netherlands)|Veere]], Dutch province of [[Zeeland (Netherlands)|Zeeland]] in December 1560. He was born at [[Goes (Zeeland, Netherlands)|Goes]], same province. A student familiar with Latin, 18 years old, he was seized, cruelly racked, and burned at the stake "on Monday before Christmas" in 1560. At his death he sang the last stanza of a hymn he had composed; it begins, "Och Heere Ghi staet altijt in mijnen sinne" (Lord, Thou art always in my mind). The song is found in a number of old Dutch Mennonite hymn books. The confession of faith he wrote has unfortunately been lost.

Joost (Josse) Joosten was an Anabaptist martyr executed at Veere, Dutch province of Zeeland in December 1560. He was born at Goes, same province. A student familiar with Latin, 18 years old, he was seized, cruelly racked, and burned at the stake "on Monday before Christmas" in 1560. At his death he sang the last stanza of a hymn he had composed; it begins, "Och Heere Ghi staet altijt in mijnen sinne" (Lord, Thou art always in my mind). The song is found in a number of old Dutch Mennonite hymn books. The confession of faith he wrote has unfortunately been lost.
