Gottlieb Joss was a Protestant pastor at Herzogenbuchsee, Switzerland and author of the book, Das Sektenwesen im Kanton Bern (Bern, 1881), in which he gives the Mennonites friendly treatment, though not always with historical accuracy. The rise of the Neutäufer (Fröhlichianer) is carefully recounted.
